What to expect after LASIK Surgery

Have you been thinking about LASIK Surgery for a while, but are scared or nervous as to what happens after? Well, we are here to provide you with the truth.

There is a period of recovery that you will have to endure while you wait for your eyes to heal. While the procedure is safe and commonly done, it is still surgery and requires precautions. In addition, it takes time for your vision to become “normal” after your surgery.

Here are some things that you should expect after you have LASIK eye surgery:

Immediately after LASIK surgery your eyes are likely to burn or itch, this is normal. Many patients compare it to having something in their eye. You eyes will water or tear up, and it is possible that your vision can be a little fuzzy. You will receive drop that will help relieve the feeling.
You will have the urge to rub your eyes, but it’s VERY important that you do not. If you do, you could cause problems with the surgery.
Some symptoms that some experience after LASIK surgery are sensitivity to light, have glare, see starburst, or see haloes around lights. These will disappear after a few days.
You will have a follow up appointment the day after surgery, and then on a regular basis for the next 6 month. The doctor will test your vision and check to make sure everything thing is healing correctly.
It can take anywhere from one day to six months after LASIK eye surgery for your vision to stabilize.
